Receiving Jesus is a voluntary act of a person acting according to the Word of God (The Bible). One realizes they have no Savior, are powerless to approach God, and are deprived of eternal life. But they can look up to God and pray:
A Prayer to Follow Jesus
Father, I come to you in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ. I know that You will not reject me, for You say in Your Word: '...whoever comes to me I will never cast out.'
I believe in my heart that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that He died for my sins, according to the Scriptures.
I believe that He rose from the dead so that I might be justified according to the Scriptures. 'Justified' means reconciled, in right standing with God.
I believe that Christ's death, burial, and resurrection have reconciled me to God.
I receive Jesus as my Savior and confess that He is my Lord.
Your Word says: 'Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved'. I call on Your Name now and I know that I am saved.
You also say: 'If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved'. I confess it with my mouth and believe it in my heart. Therefore, I am saved.
You have declared: '...with the heart one believes and is justified'. And I believe in my heart that I am justified in God's eyes. You have also stated: '...and with the mouth one confesses and is saved'. That is why I confess with my mouth: 'I am saved. Thank you, Lord!'
